If Jesus didn't manage, can we?
It's a scary time of year. No, not because it is Halloween, but because transition in leadership is in the air. Americans go to the polls soon. All indications are that the American political landscape is going to change significantly, but how is clouded in mist. Katharine Jefferts Schori will be installed as the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church in coming days. The consequences of this bold move may be as historic as her election, but what they are is less than clear. In Iraq , the country is ablaze. Obviously, some kind of transition is occurring, but where it is leading is anything but encouraging. In England , Blair is leaving but who is arriving is still the question. Behind all the uncertainty is the question of leadership. Where is it? It seems a good time to reflect on the qualities of leadership. Glynn examines Jesus' leadership style in Crosshairs. Guest Columnist, John Honore, looks at the lack of leadership provided by Tony Blair, Ehud Olmert and George Bush in Second Thoughts. eNZed leNZ finds leadership in being an affliction. The SmacaSermon is a reminder that we are barking up the wrong tree if we want God to keep us safe in such times. In fact, Glynn warns us to “Beware of the God.” We hope you enjoy this issue and that it will provoke you to engage in the conversation by posting your thoughts, reactions or comments where provided after each of the above contributions. Please forward us to your friends.
Happy Halloween, Clay Nelson Editor

My SongThis song of mine will wind its music around you,my child, like the fond arms of love. The song of mine will touch your forehead like a kiss of blessing. When you are alone it will sit by your side and whisper in your ear, when you are in the crowd it will fence you about with aloofness. My song will be like a pair of wings to your dreams, it will transport your heart to the verge of the unknown. It will be like the faithful star overhead when dark night is over your road. My song will sit in the pupils of your eyes, and will carry your sight into the heart of things. And when my voice is silenced in death, my song will speak in your living heart. -Rabindranath Tagore |

| Leadership Affliction
©Clay Nelson The woman caught the eye of the church staff member making sure the formal corporate dinner being held in the church went smoothly. “Is St Matthew-in-the-City still consecrated?” she asked. “Oh yes,” she assured her, “We have services every Sunday and once during the week.” » » »

| Beware of the God
By Glynn Cardy Feast of St. FrancisMark 10:2-16 “Beware of the God” reads the bright red sign outside our church. The kennel beneath it and the subscript advertising the upcoming animal service give the sign its context. Adults and children smile as they pass by. Our detractors also love it. » » »
